WSSCC Annual Report 2016

2016 was a year of delivery and transition for WSSCC, and a time to respond to new opportunities. It was the conclusion of WSSCC’s Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSP) 2012-2016, when the significant results from 2016 and the last five years were consolidated and the impacts were evaluated. The report shows the interconnectivity of WSSCC’s work on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 6.2 and other SDGs, especially those for health, education and reduction in inequalities. Direct national sanitation and hygiene delivery through the Global Sanitation Fund and policy advocacy aiming to ‘leave no one behind’ generated positive impacts for millions of people in 2016. These twin, inter-linked pillars of WSSCC’s work were given momentum by thousands of WSSCC partners, including National Coordinators and individual members, on-the-ground implementers, national governments where we work, donors and others.

CSW61 Side Event: Women’s Access to Sanitation and Hygiene in Informal Sector

On March 20th, 2017 the Permanent Missions of Niger and Singapore to the United Nations in New York hosted an event on the sidelines of the 61st Commission on the Status of Women. Co-organized by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) and UN Women, this event highlighted the daily sanitation and hygiene challenges faced by women and girls in the informal economy. Connecting the Dots-Advancing the WASH Agenda in 16 Countries with WSSCC’s National Coordinators

WSSCC works closely with highly respected professionals in the water, sanitation and hygiene arena who are nominated by their peers and appointed by the Executive Director to be volunteer experts, known as national coordinators. The 16 national coordinators work in priority countries in Africa and Asia and are an important and distinguishing feature of WSSCC. This report is focused on the WSSCC national coordinators, the vital work they lead at country level and their considerable ongoing impact. National coordinators possess local knowledge of what is happening on the ground and understand the dynamics of their particular country contexts. Their day jobs range from heading up national NGOs to holding senior positions in government offices or consultancy firms. With this kind of combination of experience, capacities, exposure and contexts, the national coordinators bring a wide range of rich knowledge and ways of working to the WSSCC mission that allows our work to reach sectors and partners that would not otherwise be possible.Le WSSCC travaille en étroite collaboration avec des professionnels très respectés dans le domaine de l'eau, l'assainissement et l’hygiène. Ils sont nommés par leurs pairs et par le directeur exécutif pour être des experts bénévoles, connus sous le nom de coordonnateurs nationaux. Les 16 coordinateurs nationaux travaillent dans des pays prioritaires du WSSCC en Afrique et en Asie et sont des acteurs importants et caractéristiques du Conseil. WSSCC’s new Strategic Plan will guide the organization over the next four years. It identifies the results WSSCC will achieve, the issues it will work on, and where it will work. The Strategy also presents how WSSCC will deploy its effective mix of tools, instruments, knowledge, and human and financial resources to make a meaningful and sustainable impact on the lives of millions people who lack sanitation and hygiene, especially those in the most vulnerable situations. Because WSSCC’s work is guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that aim to transform the world by 2030, this Strategy is the first in a sequence of plans that later will guide WSSCC’s work from 2021-25 and 2026-30, respectively.Le nouveau Plan Stratégique du WSSCC guidera l'organisation au cours des quatre prochaines années. Il identifie les résultats que le WSSCC atteindra, les enjeux sur lesquels il travaillera et où il fonctionnera. La Stratégie présente également comment le WSSCC déploiera sa panoplie efficace d'outils, d'instruments, de connaissances et de ressources humaines et financières pour avoir un impact significatif et durable sur la vie de millions de personnes qui manquent d'assainissement et d'hygiène, en particulier dans les situations les plus vulnérables. Mid-Term Review of WSSCC’s Medium-Term Strategic Plan 2012-2016 – Executive Summary

In 2015, the WSSCC commissioned a Mid-Term Review (MTR) of its Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSP) 2012-16 to assess its progress against intended results in the MTSP. The MTR was designed to contribute to organisational learning as well as to meet the accountability requirements of WSSCC’s Steering Committee and donors. The MTR covers the period 2012-2014, with additional analysis of progress made as part of the 2015-2016 Biennial Work Plan up to February 2016. The review was undertaken by IFMR LEAD and managed for quality assurance by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) under the 3ie Sanitation and Hygiene Thematic Window.WSSCC has issued a Management Response to the recommendations in the review, with a comprehensive internal response plan developed for each recommendation, under the headings of Programme Strategy, Monitoring and Evaluation and Governance.
