WSSCC participated in the inaugural African Center for Water and Sanitation forum in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Led by CREPA, a key player and visionary in Africa on sanitation, water and hygiene issues, the forum attracted key African decision and policy makers to discuss Africa’s representation at the much anticipated high-level meeting on Sanitation and Water for All which will take place in Washington in April 2012 and the 6 World Water Forum (6 WWF).

During the forum, which took place from 5-8 December, CREPA launched its forward-thinking ambitious new strategy which seeks to reinvent itself as an organisation and position itself as the primary African organisation which will support  African countries to achieve its vision of providing water and sanitation to all. This is a shift from its traditional focus on WestAfrican states.

“CREPA is the single most important player in water and sanitation issues in francophone Africa”, said Archana Patkar, Programme Manager, Networking and Knowledge Management at the WSSCC. “The event was an excellent opportunity to share knowledge, network and build partnerships, which is one of the key strengths of CREPA as an organisation”, she went on to say. The event gave WSSCC the opportunity to meet with four National Coordinators, namely Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Benin and Togo, as well as some of its Members based in the region.

The forum also hosted the Launch of the CREPA Think Tank for innovative solutions in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene in Africa. For more information please see: http://www.crepa.fr/
